200 Pounds Beauty!

            Recently I've been addicted to Korea movie. This is one of my favorite Korea movie called  200 Pounds Beauty. It is a comedy film based on a Japanese manga. The literal meaning of the movie name 미녀는 괴로워is 'Being Beautiful is Agonizing.' This movie actually reflected the actress Kim Ah-Joong own story as she herself went through quite a transformation. The story in this movie tells the tale about an overweight girl named Hanna undergoes extreme plastic surgeries to become a pop sensation.

Hanna has a beautiful voice but overweight and ugly appearance; she is an overweight phone sex employee and a secret vocalist for Ammy, the famous Korean pop singer who actually cannot sing. Instead of being famous for her owns amazing vocal talent, Hanna hides behind Ammy's performance stage and sings during Ammy's concerts, and records all of Ammy's songs. 

Although she is always been ignored because of her appearance, but still she has been a bright and lighthearted girl until Ammy humiliates her in front of Sang-jun, her secret love. Hence, she suffers from having extremely poor self-esteem. At last she makes a decision of a lifetime to have plastic surgery all over her body. The story tells how her life transforms after the plastic surgery. She creates a new identity for herself, a Korean-American from Californian named Jenny. She earns her own recording contract from Sang-jun in a auditioning instead to be Ammy's secret vocalist. Meanwhile, Ammy is desperately tries to find Hanna so that she can record her own postponed album since she cannot sings the songs herself. However, through spending time with Hanna’s father and Jenny, eventually she realizes that this Jenny is actually Hanna.

During a day of night, Sang-Jun realizes as well that Jenny is actually Hanna and seems to be unable to forgive her for lying to him but says that he will still work to promote 'Jenny' and carry on with her concert scheduled the next day. Hanna breaks down at this point, heartbroken and unable to pretend to be someone else anymore. It is frustrating and painful that not being able to be herself but have to live a lie.

The first concert of Jenny still going on, she reveals to the public that Jenny is a "fake," and that she is not all-natural, but is "plastic". She tearfully tells her story to the large crowds how she has abandoned everything that is dear to her which is her best friend and father and also how along the way to fame and fortune she has also lost her own identity that she no longer knows who she is. The crowds moved by her sincere confession and support her continuously. At the end, Hanna drops the stage name “Jenny” and releases a CD with her own name Hanna and becomes a highly successful music artist.
