Foods that Improve Eyesight
The eyes are one part of the body that may be easily taken for granted until something goes wrong. For example, a parent may not pay much attention to food that helps promote good eyesight until her child is diagnosed with eye problems. Whether or not you have problems with vision, it is always a good thing to stock up on food that will help your eyesight.
The following are the top recommendations of food that help improve eyesight.

CARROT
Truly, the well-known vegetable is rich in beta-carotene, which is converted into Vitamin A in a person’s body. The vitamin helps convert fat into energy. It is estimated that a half cup of cooked carrots comes with four times a person’s recommended daily dose of vitamin A. As a side benefit, beta-carotene is a powerful antioxidant that is known for fighting effectively against some cancer types. In terms of the eyes, though, beta-carotene apparently helps to maintain the surface lining of the eyes as well as those of the urinary, intestinal, and respiratory tracts. The breakdown of these linings allows bacteria to enter the body and result in infection, which makes beta-carotene an overall good thing to add to one’s daily diet. Meanwhile, vitamin A assists in maintaining the integrity of the skin as well as mucous membranes, which also works as a barrier against viruses and bacteria.
FISH

Cold water fish come with great levels of DHA, a substance that gives structural support to the membranes of cells. This is highly recommended for people suffering from dry eyes or macular degeneration, and it is also helpful to help preserve sight. The most common fish in this group are cod, tuna, sardines, and mackerel.

VEGETABLES

These veggies come high with carotenoids, including zeaxathin and lutein. The yellow pigment lutein helps protect the macula from blue light as well as from the harmful rays of the sun.

SOY

This food product which is rich in protein and low in fat has fast become a favorite in vegetarian fare. Soy comes with phytoestrogens, essential fatty acids, vitamin E, and natural agents that fight against inflammation.

GRAPES

These fruits come rich in anthocyanins, which are known for improving night vision. Studies show that dark adaptation is improved within 30 minutes following consumption of huckleberry jam or a cup of blueberries.

WINE

Not only is wine good for the heart, the nutrients contained in wine also help to protect one’s vision, along with blood flow and the heart. Of course, in the case of wine, moderation should be observed.

Overall, the importance of vitamins and minerals in the case of eye health cannot be undermined, particularly vitamin A, C, B vitamins, and beta-carotene. Fruits and vegetables are always a great thing to stock up on, and many of them are found to be highly beneficial to the eye. As such it would always be a good thing to be sure you get enough fruits and vegetables on a daily basis, especially those that are high on vitamin A.
